HIKE FOR THE POOR TO BENEFIT DISADVANTAGED IN THE EL PASO AREA.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul's, lst "Hike for the Poor" will be held on Saturday, September 29th, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, (the last hike starts 1:00 PM.) You can register on line here, by mail, personally at 2104 N. Piedras or you can register on the day of the Hike.
The Hike will take place at the Franklin Mountains State Park, Tom Mays Unit.
Unlike fund raising competitive events, "Hike for the Poor" is not a
competitive event, but is more of a family oriented, fun filled, healthy activity for
all ages. Funds will be raised by individual participant pledges or "group" family
pledges.
There are three hiking trails,
one (Green) is .075 miles and can be hiked in approximately 20 to 30 minutes.
The second (Purple) is 3.4 miles, approximately 1.45 minutes and
the third (Red) is 4.7 miles, approximately 2.5 hours.
Participants will be given bottled water, energy bars, certificate of
completion and a "Hike T-shirt".
Participant parking is (will be) at the employee parking area at the white, ADP Building, 1851 N. Resler, off of Trans Mountain Rd. This is also the location of the registration desk, where participants can check in or register & receive their bottled water & energy bar. From there participants will be bused to the staging area, the entrance to Tom Mays Unit, Franklin State Park. The bus will be circling the "loop" picking up participants at the designated pick up points & bringing them back to the parking area.

The EI Paso Council of the Society of St. Vincent De Paul (svdpelPaso.org) One
of the oldest and most effective charities in the world. SVDP is an international
Catholic lay organization of almost 900,000 men and women who voluntarily
join together to grow spiritually and offer person-to-person aid to needy and
those living in poverty in 142 countries on five continents. All proceeds of this
event will directly benefit people in need in metropolitan El Paso. SVDP
provides a wide range of services to those in need.
There are no administrative fees associated with this event. SVDP's programs
include home visits, food pantry, clothing, furniture, medical and utility costs,
disaster relief and maintains three thrift stores.
